People grow through challenges and find hope for tomorrow.

Gakken Group’s founder, Hideto Furuoka, established Gakushu Kenkyusha based on his strong belief that “education is the only way for postwar reconstruction” after seeing how Japan was devastated in World War II. He wanted to create educational materials for children who did not have access to satisfactory textbooks. Our starting point, a magazine called Gakushu, was born out of this desire.

Over the past 70 years, the Gakken Group has evolved into an organization that creates content and services for the enrichment of all people, centered on the two core industries of education and medical welfare.

What has remained unchanged is our founding spirit of creating “something from nothing” and “for people and for the world.”

Bridging this unchanging spirit to the future, we are creating a society where all people can dream, and where we can continue to be a company that helps you to rise higher and go further.

To this end, we promise to boldly lead the way by pursuing our dreams.

We look forward to your continued support and guidance.

Why Gakken? Reasons for choosing Gakken

Gakken supports the building of a foundation of mind & body to cultivate possibilities of all children in the world

We want all children to experience the joy of “understanding” and “being able to do”.We will provide various educational opportunities at home, in the community, at school, in kindergartens, in cram schools, and in other settings so that children can choose “their own learning”

Gakken Classroom

The Gakken Classroom was created in 1980 with the ardent desire to help children gain self-confidence and experience the joy of learning.

Gakken STEAM Program

The Gakken STEAM Program (GSP) consists of two courses: a science course and a programming course. Through the GSP, children experience discovery, surprise, and excitement and acquire the basic abilities for future learning, such as curiosity, to think independently, and proactive attitudes toward learning. We also acquire the social and communication skills to tackle a variety of challenges.

Books/Toys

We support learning at home with fun, high-quality picture books, workbooks, and educational toys. We accompany children’s first learning experience with books and toys that match children’s interests and development.

I find Gakken’s program diverse, interesting, and helps children practice concentration, carefulness, self-study, and self-awareness skills. When studying at Gakken Classroom, my child has formed a disciplined routine, self-studying, and doing homework every night without needing his parents. He calculates more carefully and thinks more thoughtfully, and loves math more.

“Gakken’s programs and courses are very well designed, creating a foundation for basic knowledge of Mathematics so that children can develop and improve in the future. Gakken’s teachers are very professional, sincere and enthusiastic in their work, bringing good feelings to students.”
I love studying at Gakken Classroom! I am no longer afraid of Math. Because I have been able to review my knowledge, my grades last semester were higher. With new math problems, even if I cannot get 100 points on the first try, I can still continue to try again until I understand the lesson. In addition to learning math, I also learn a new learning method and new skills. At first, I was not used to studying by myself, reading aloud and underlining when doing exercises at Gakken Classroom, but now I find that doing so helps me study more focused and effectively. I can completely study at home. I can participate in classes with my older siblings and younger siblings. I love studying and also enjoy cleaning the classroom.
